Girls Day Out

I have to admit, I’m really enjoying having a female foster! Out of the last six temporary or long-term fosters we’ve had, Johnnie is only the second girl. It’s like having a girlfriend around all the time! We gossip, we watch trashy tv, we workout together – she’s basically a new BFF.

We spent some girly time together this past long weekend when I hung out with a couple of my human BFFs. I was excited to introduce them to Johnnie, and she was, as usual, beyond excited to meet them! It was only seconds after meeting my college roomie Sarah that Johnnie found herself in Sarah’s lap in the back seat of my car, as seen in yesterday’s post about Why You Want Johnnie.

The four of us enjoyed a leisurely outdoor hike. We spent the morning catching up and chatting about what’s going on in our lives – ya know, girlfriend type stuff. We also didn’t pass up the opportunity to play on a playground we found or take fun pictures.

My friends really fell in love with J, like I expected them too. I’m not kidding when I tell you that everyone who meets this dog turns to total mush.

I want to take this post to point out that my friend Courtney walked Johnnie all the way home from the park. This is cool because Courtney is a tiny little woman and would not be inclined to walk a dog that didn’t have really awesome leash manners! I am very proud of Johnnie for earning the chance to walk with Court.

A good time was had by all – as to be expected when you go out with your BFFs!

See What Happens at a Pit Bull Event

Take a look at what happened during this event with lots of “pit bull” dogs:

Did you see it? No? That’s probably because there was really nothing out of the ordinary to see! This celebration of Pit Bull Awareness Day on Sunday afternoon was just a bunch of dogs and humans hanging out having a great time, like any other dog event. No special rules because there were “pit bull” dogs, no crazy catastrophes – just simple dog/owner courtesy and fun filled Halloween fundraising games. Congrats to Bully Paws for pulling off such a great event to bring these dog lovers together!

Oh, and that cutie patootie in the rainbow collar who you also saw in yesterday’s post? That’s Charlie. He’s available through Jasmine’s House. I am in LOVE (how can you not be with a face like that?). Learn more about him on the Jasmine’s House website!

Otis at the Lake

During the summer here at the PLF house we are lucky to find two things: an entirely free evening and a day with weather under ninety degrees. So when we came across a BOTH of those, it meant one thing: a trip to our local state park.

The adventure came with zero expectations except to enjoy the evening and get our feet (or paws) wet. There were a few too many humans – especially small, shrieking, quick moving ones – for Otis’ liking, but we found quiet nooks to take some pictures and slip into the water.

The best part about going to parks or trails with Otis is that he ignores most other people or dogs around him. I got so many compliments this evening saying he was so well behaved (and of course remarks about how handsome he is). He follows me anywhere I go, so if I step off the trail for bikers or hikers, he steps off the trail too. I had a serious face-to-palm moment after the third person told me how great he was and I realized I had forgotten to bring Adopt Me vest .

So he might not have gotten any adoption bites, but he certainly got some socialization. Even if he doesn’t interact with anyone, going to popular places where we can expose him to new things while staying within his comfort zone is very valuable in helping him become a more confident dog.

He enjoyed the water and the park surrounding it – though he only stuck to his paws in the wet category. Here is Otis demonstrating his appreciation for cool water, a good patch of grass, and a nice spot to relax.

(And here he is showing you his best puppy face:)

Aside from just his good looks, Otis will be a spectacular hiking/walking/relaxing partner for someone looking for a trail buddy. He’s up for pretty much anything if it involves water, grass, or dirt!

The Rain: It’s My Turn

Yesterday it rained. I don’t like the rain. I often stick up my nose to the rain and refuse to get my precious paws wet. It seems fostermama got a little tired of my drama, so she put me in this green suit. I instantly became a Kermit the Dog, much to my chagrin.

It is my understanding that this green thing fostermama has made me wear is quite the tradition in our foster family. My foster half-sister Zabora wore it, and so did my half-brother Baxter. I will admit, it did keep me dry – but I will not use that as an excuse for them to get away with making me look like a frog! I can’t believe even FosterG was in on it!

I guess I have to get used to this outfit since it’s likely there will be rain again before I move on to my forever home. At least I look cute, right?

Grand Prix Jumper

Check it out! Fostermama thought it’d be fun to put my outdoor energy to good use. I totally impressed her!

I can’t do it very often ‘cuz I’ve got a funky hind from spending so much time in a cage when I was a pup, but I sure did enjoy myself! I love running around, so when mama is on the other side of the fence from me (and the fence is really little) I’ll hop right over it to go see her! Just like those horses that I don’t like.

Have a great weekend!

Sizzlin’ Summertime Blues

It is HOT these days. Too hot for my liking, and definitely too hot for Otie’s liking.

My general cure for excessively hot weather is to stay inside, but for a dog that’s got too much energy to just be lazy with us all day, that wasn’t an option this weekend. So we headed to the next best place to be on a hot, humid summer day: the water.

No better way to cool off, wouldn’t ya say? Honey Bunches loves the water, so this was a welcomed treat for him. I have a feeling it’s going to become a summer time ritual for Otie – but hopefully with his forever family!
