Puppy Pool Party!

It’s been SO HOT these past few days, and Otis and I started going a little stir crazy in our house in our efforts to stay cool. I decided we were going to brave the outdoors the only way possible: getting wet!

I went out and got Otis a baby pool in hopes that the end result would be him lounging around in it and me joining him with a book and a cold beer. I thought he would love it since he loves the creek so much, but it turns out I was wrong. He didn’t love it, especially at first – but after a while he didn’t hate it either.

He thought of it as more of an over-sized water bowl, so I decided to hop in and show him what the deal was. He was, of course, much happier with me in there with him.

This is the best part… we had friends over to play in the pool with us!

That adorable little Cocker Spaniel is my friend’s dog, Monster – more about him and his relationship with Otis later this week. Monster and Otis were equally unimpressed by the baby pool, despite their similar love for water. It was pretty comical trying to convince them both it was a good idea to get in and roll around so we could take adorable photos they could cool off.  Eventually there was some success, but it wasn’t much and it certainly wasn’t long lived.

Despite the lack of enthusiasm, everyone had a great time. The pool will be in my backyard all summer, and I don’t doubt that there will be a few more Puppy Pool Parties in our future. That’s what summer’s for, right?

Play With Me

I’ve had dogs with all types of personalities. I’ve had dogs that are snugglers, and dogs that like space. I’ve had dogs that solicit attention, and ones who could care less if you give them a behind-the-ear scratch or not. I’ve had dogs who get annoyed when you try to play with them, and I’ve had dogs who love all the ways you spend your time together.

Otis is that last one. He really likes to play, and he’ll put up with anything.

And I LOVE it.

In fact, I totally can’t get enough of it.

Playing with this pup makes my whole day better. I can’t wait for him to brighten someone else’s life as much as he has mine. But until then, I’m going to soak up every bit of happiness, love, and playfulness Honey Bunches sends my way.

Video Wednesday: Baxter & Bella

For this Video Wednesday I want to showcase two BFFs hanging out, doing what they do best: zoomies!

I have fallen in love with having a dog-friendly canine because all you have to do is put them together with a well-known doggy friend in a fenced area and boom! – instant exercise. Running around with Bella for 20 minutes is more exercise than I could ever give Baxter. He plays for half an hour then sleeps for three days! It’s great. I know you missed Bella‘s cute mug, so here are some pictures from their most recent playdate.

And since these pictures don’t do these two silly pitties justice, check out a video…

When they’re not playing together, you can find them going on dates. Upon exiting the backyard, they both put on their “great manners” hats and behave perfectly on adventures with their humans their dates together. When they’re out on the town you would never think that, given some open space, they’d become a flash of black and white fur whizzing by you.

So, what’s better than one well-behaved dog in a car?
