GROWING UP

It’s been a busy summer around here, especially with my two best friends from high school. You’ve met one of them briefly on here when I wrote about her gorgeous dog Kenji. Well, she’s getting married! We got to spend some quality time with Kenji yesterday after wedding dress shopping with his mama. It’s been so great to watch him grow up into a lovely gentlemen.

More exciting news – my other best friend just adopted her foster dog from BARCS, Baltimore’s animal shelter! Ilana has never had a dog before and this new addition to her family has got me doing all sorts of happy dances. Dominic is the perfect dog for her, and I am so proud of her for adopting a pup in need of a home. She will be here with a guest post soon about what it is like to have a dog for the first time ever. Stay tuned!

So we’re busy busy, and so grateful for this time spent with close friends – especially since catching up is usually extra dog related these days!

Are you all doing anything special this summer?

Catching Up With An Old Friend

I never realized how much I would appreciate adopting one of my fosters out to someone who lives locally and who ended up becoming a friend to me. The day Johnnie went home I was so bummed that I’d just given away my best friend. That afternoon I got a text from Otis’ dad saying he got stuck at work for longer than expected and if I wanted a canine pick-me-up could I swing by and take Otis for a walk. Um, yes please!!!

It’s no surprise that Otie’s goofy grin and complete bat sh*t crazy hurricane greeting immediately put a smile on my face. You never realize how much you miss ‘em until they’re back! We went for a relaxing walk along the Potomac River, soaking up the evening air. It felt so good to just be hanging out with my buddy again.

Then this past weekend I learned that R had gone on a day trip so I asked if he wanted me to walk Otie again. He told me his neighbors were feeding Otis and letting him out but he’d probably love to go for a walk! It was a gorgeous Friday afternoon so I scooped him up and headed to Virginia to meet Mark. We recently discovered another great path along the Virginia side of the Potomac and we quickly escaped weekend rush hour traffic to find our secluded spot. It was perfect. Otis and Mark actually seemed to enjoy each other’s company since Otis was able to relax, run around a little bit and warm up to Mark.  As you can see we also enjoyed cooling off in the river!

Baxter & Piggy Spread the Love

Those of you who are foster parents know how rewarding it is to get positive updates from your former fosters in their new homes. What’s even better is seeing with your own eyes how well your animal is doing – how they’ve adjusted, how they’re making bonds with their new family, and just how happy they are.

I got the privilege of seeing Baxter with his new family last weekend for a special occasion. During his stay with me, Baxter and I visited one of his biggest fans: Big Bruno’s mother. Of course she had heard all about Baxter, so we went down there one day to meet her in person. Once Baxter was in his new home, his forever family was gracious enough to bring him & his new sister over to introduce themselves to Big Bruno’s mom as well. It ended up being a big reunion and an incredible visit, hanging out with the two happy dogs and their amazing parents. Big Bruno’s mother and Baxter rekindled their friendship as if they’d been life long buddies.

Miss Piggy, being the love bug she is, joined right in. They both soaked up the attention, and of course.. the treats.

Bax & Miss Piggy didn’t fail to show us just how happy they are as brother and sister. They broke into a few wrestling matches but stopped frequently to distribute kisses around the room. A dose of these two faces will make anyone’s day brighter!
